Brockton man arrested after returning to search for loaded gun found near Raynham traffic stop

RAYNHAM — On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Raynham Police Sergeant Joshua O’Brien was on patrol when he observed a black SUV traveling eastbound on King Philip Street at 47 mph in a 30-mph zone.

According to the Raynham Police Department, Sergeant O’Brien attempted to stop the SUV but briefly lost sight of it near King Philip Street before successfully pulling the vehicle over.

Sergeant O’Brien identified the driver as Anthony Luma Auguste, 33, of Brockton, and determined his license was suspended. Police also learned the SUV was a rental vehicle that had been rented by another person.

Following the traffic stop, Detectives Patrick Leahy and Jared Turkington searched King Philip Street and found a Glock 30 .45-caliber handgun on the ground approximately 700 feet from where the SUV had been stopped, the Raynham Police Department reported. The firearm contained a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Auguste, who had been allowed to leave the initial traffic stop with another ride, later went to the Raynham Police Department to obtain paperwork needed to retrieve the rental vehicle from a tow yard.

Believing Auguste might return to the location where the firearm was discovered, detectives established surveillance nearby.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., detectives observed a vehicle that Auguste was a passenger in, return to King Philip Street. Auguste exited the passenger side of the vehicle and spent several minutes searching the ground where the handgun had been discovered by the detectives.

The detectives subsequently stopped the vehicle and arrested Auguste.

Anthony Luma Auguste, 33, of Brockton, was charged with the following:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
  • Unlicensed Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of Ammunition
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Speeding

Auguste was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Taunton District Court.
