AVON — On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Avon fire crews were dispatched to 551 Old South Street following a 911 call reporting flames in a garage and an injured resident.
According to Avon Fire Chief David Charest, when Avon firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene, they located the injured man, who had been helped out of the burning garage by another person.
Firefighters and paramedics provided medical aid before the man was transported by Avon Fire ambulance to Boston Medical Center–South in Brockton. He was later flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The fire was relatively small and had largely burned itself out, requiring only minor extinguishing efforts, Chief Charest said.
The State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Avon police assisted at the scene. The Holbrook Fire Department responded to an initial mutual-aid call with a backup engine.
