MAYNARD — Maynard police and firefighters are currently at Maynard High School investigating an anonymous, nonspecific threat that officials believe is likely a swatting incident.
The Maynard Police Department announced the ongoing response on social media at about 12:56 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.
According to Maynard police, public safety officials are searching the school building while investigating the threat, adding that the threat does not currently appear to be credible.
Police said the incident is believed to be a possible case of “swatting,” a malicious hoax report intended to draw a significant emergency response to a given location.
Maynard High School has been placed in safe mode as a precaution, restricting the movement of students and staff during the immediate public safety response.
The Maynard Police Deparrment said there is currently no direct threat or immediate danger to students or the public.
The department said an increased police and fire presence will remain at the school throughout the day out of an abundance of caution.
