MAYNARD โ€“ On Monday, August 24, 2026, a man contacted the Maynard Police Department after observing an unidentified male near the post office on the bicycle he reported stolen from the CVS bike rack the day before.

When Maynard Police Officer Richard Seeley responded to the area, he spotted a man with long hair in a gray sweatshirt riding the bicycle on Main Street. While driving behind the bicycle in his cruiser, Officer Seeley said he observed the operator pop a wheelie near the Main Street bridge.

โ€œThe operator then turned into the CVS parking lot and continued toward the rear parking lot,โ€ Officer Seeley said.

Officer Seeley followed the man as he rode the bicycle through the rear CVS parking lot toward the Tobin footbridge, where he temporarily lost sight of the operator and the bicycle.

A short time later, Officer Seeley said he located the man in the parking lot of 2 Florida Road as he was attempting to conceal the bicycle behind a storage shed near the fence along the river.

โ€œWhile concealing the bicycle, the male removed the gray hooded sweatshirt he had been wearing,โ€ Officer Seeley said.

Officer Seeley said he drove to within approximately 20 feet of the male, exited his cruiser, and shouted, โ€œPolice, stop!โ€ The male looked directly at Officer Seeley and then fled on foot behind 2 Florida Road toward Railroad Street. Officer Seeley said he shouted, โ€œPolice, stop!โ€ once again, but the man continued to flee.

Officer Seeley then radioed the manโ€™s description and direction of travel to Officer Jeffrey Houle.

โ€œOfficer Houle subsequently located and detained the male on Railroad Street,โ€ Officer Seeley said. โ€œThe male was identified as Isaias Plaza.โ€

According to police, Isaias S. Plaza, 26, is a resident of East Boston, MA.

After making contact with Plaza, Officer Houle said he asked him about the bike he had witnessed him riding. Plaza told Officer Houle that the bike had been given to him by a stocky white male who was about 16 years old.

โ€œMr. Plaza explained that he asked this unknown white male if he could ride the bike. Mr. Plaza went on to say that he did not know the bike was stolen,โ€ Officer Houle said. Later adding, โ€œI then explained that while I was searching for him on the bike that I did not witness any white males fitting the description that he just gave me. Mr. Plaza then repeated several times, โ€˜I didnโ€™t steal the bike. I was just riding the bike; I was popping wheelies.โ€™โ€

At around this time, Officer Houle said Plaza was taken into custody.

โ€œOfficer Seeley then placed his department issued handcuffs on Mr. Plaza and escorted him to his police cruiser, marked unit 11,โ€ Officer Houle said. โ€œMr. Plaza was then escorted to the Maynard Police Station where he was booked in the usual manner without incident.โ€

Isaias S. Plaza, 26, of East Boston, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Receive Stolen Property -$1200

Plazaโ€™s bail was set at $200 cash, and his arraignment was scheduled for the morning of Aug. 25, 2026, in Concord District Court.
