LEOMINSTER โ On Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, Leominster Police Officer Braden Carlson responded to the CVS at 188 Central Street following a report of a woman inside the CVS who had previously been trespassed.

โUpon my arrival, I saw the woman exit the store and walk through the parking lot toward Central Street,โ Officer Carlson said. โThe clothing she was wearing matched the description that the reporting party had given to dispatch.โ
Officer Carlson said he pulled in front of the woman and exited his cruiser.
โI asked her what she was doing here and she stated she was getting her medicine,โ Officer Carlson said. โI asked her if she was supposed to be here, and she informed me she was not, but she had just been released from the hospital and needed her medication. I then asked if she knew she was trespassed, and she again stated she just needed her medication.โ
Officer Carlson said he then asked the woman for her identification, which she provided.
โI was able to identify her as Deanna Diaz,โ Officer Carlson said. โI radioed dispatch with her information and asked them to check if the trespass notice was still active.โ
According to police, Deanna J. Diaz, 54, is a resident of Leominster, MA.
Officer Carlson said dispatch confirmed that the trespass notice remained in effect and that Diaz had been trespassed indefinitely from the CVS on Central Street in June.
โAt this time, I told Deanna to place her purse and shopping bag down and that she was being placed under arrest for trespassing,โ Officer Carlson said. โI then handcuffed Deanna and double checked the cuffs for proper fit and tightness. I then placed her in the back seat of my cruiser.โ
After securing Diaz in his cruiser, Officer Carlson said a CVS employee came outside and reported that Diaz had also shoplifted while she was inside the store and had merchandise inside her purse.
โI then looked inside of her purse and could immediately see an unopened box of Nix Lice Treatment (valued at $37.99), a bottle of CVS Lice Treatment (valued at $8.89) and a Nivea Lip gloss (valued at $4.69),โ Officer Carlson said.
Officer Carlson then returned the items to the CVS employee, who went back inside the store to obtain a receipt for the merchandise.
โIt is important to note that when I made initial contact with Deanna, she was in the parking lot. Clearly past all points of sale,โ Officer Carlson added. โShe had also concealed these items in her purse in an effort to permanently deprive CVS of these items. I then went to speak with Deanna.โ
Officer Carlson then read Diaz her Miranda rights from a card he carries on his person and asked her if she understood these rights, which she said she did.
โI then asked if she was willing to speak with me to which she said yes,โ Officer Carlson said. โI asked Deanna if she had shoplifted items while inside CVS. She stated she had and that she just wanted to make sure she did not have lice.โ
Deanna J. Diaz, 54, of Leominster, was charged with the following:
- Shoplifting by Asportation
- Trespassing
Diaz didnโt appear for her arraignment, which was initially scheduled for Sept. 28, 2026, in Leominster District Court, and Judge Mark Noonan issued a default warrant for her arrest.
The warrant was recalled the following day, Sept. 29, when Diaz appeared in court and was arraigned.
During her arraignment, Judge Noonan decriminalized both the shoplifting and trespassing charges and found Diaz responsible. The case was then filed.
Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the incident in this story took place in September, thatโs because I had to file FOIA request(s) to obtain the court documents. FOIAs are time-consuming.
