WEST YARMOUTH — A 25-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured early Saturday morning in a crash on Route 28 near Parker’s River Bridge.
According to the Yarmouth Police Department, responding officers found the motorcyclist on the ground with serious injuries and the motorcycle nearby in bushes along the roadside.
Yarmouth firefighters performed lifesaving measures before transporting the motorcyclist to Cape Cod Gateway Airport. From there, Boston MedFlight flew the operator to a hospital in Rhode Island.
Police said the roadway where the crash occurred had recently been reduced to one lane for construction, with a portable traffic signal controlling traffic in both directions.
The Yarmouth Police Department said the preliminary investigation determined that the motorcycle was traveling west on Route 28 when the operator failed to stop at a red light and struck a Jersey barrier in the work zone. The impact of the crash threw the operator from the motorcycle.
Investigators also determined that the operator was riding the motorcycle without a valid driver’s license.
The Yarmouth Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (508) 775-0445.
