BOSTON — On Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, the National Weather Service’s Boston/Norton office shared a winter outlook favoring above-normal temperatures and precipitation across the region.
The outlook covers December 2026 through February 2027. Maps accompanying the announcement place Massachusetts within areas where temperatures and total precipitation are favored to exceed normal levels over the three-month period.
[Winter Weather Outlook] The current winter weather forecast favors both temperatures and precipitation to average above normal. This is just an overall probabilistic forecast for the winter months and does not rule out stretches of very cold/below normal temperatures to occur. https://t.co/1fBokVkmyq

However, forecasters cautioned that the outlook reflects probabilities for the winter as a whole. Periods of very cold weather and below-normal temperatures remain possible, even if the season’s overall average finishes above normal.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, El Niño is part of the reason why there are expected to be warmer temperatures than average this winter throughout the northern United States and wetter-than-average conditions along the East Coast.
