TEMPLETON – On Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at approximately 9:16 a.m., Templeton Police Sergeant Derek Hall responded to a report of a breaking and entering at 86 Pail Factory Road from a contractor who had come to clean out the house and found a man inside.

Templeton Police Sergeant Steve Flis also responded to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the reporting party had to leave and we did not make contact with him,” Sergeant Hall said.
Sergeant Hall said he and Sergeant Flis noticed curtains moving near a door as they walked up the driveway toward the house.
“At this time, a male party came out of the house known to officers as Carl Luhtjarv,” Sergeant Hall said.
According to police, Carl Glenn Luhtjarv, 64, is a resident of Templeton, MA.

“Carl advised that this was his house and provided us with some paperwork from Google showing he had a previous address here,” Sergeant Hall said.
Sergeant Hall said he and Sergeant Flis had arrested Luhtjarv on Sept. 29, 2026, for breaking into the same residence. Luhtjarv was later released and told not to return to the property.
“We again advised him that this is not his house, he broke into it and he was not supposed to be here,” Sergeant Hall said. “As Carl continued to try to tell us that information is incorrect, myself and Sergeant Flis advised Carl to turn around and put his hands around his back and he was under arrest.”
Sergeant Hall said he and Sergeant Flis handcuffed Luhtjarv simultaneously, using two sets of handcuffs.
“I was able to touch my index finger to my thumb on the inside of the handcuffs showing that they were properly secured,” Officer Hall said. “Carl started to resist a little and then cooperated without incident. Carl was a little argumentative about whose house it was, but cooperative and walked to the rear seat of my cruiser.”
Sergeant Hall said he and Sergeant Flis went to the rear of the house and examined the door and doorknob Luhtjarv had used to gain entry during the previous break-in.
“It appeared there was new damage, and this was the point of entry again this time,” Sergeant Hall said.
Sergeant Hall said Luhtjarv was transported back to the Templeton Police Department, where he was booked and advised of his rights. Luhtjarv was also informed that he was under arrest for breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, vandalism and trespassing.
“Carl insisted that the procedure was wrong, the court was wrong and he was advised several times that this issue is not with the police it is with the court who gave the authority for the sale of the house and that he had to vacate the residence. Carl repeated himself several times and was advised several times that he needed to address his questions to a judge,” Sergeant Hall said.
Sergeant Hall said that he and Sergeant Flis were able to pull up public records through the Town of Templeton, which showed that the house belongs to Johnny East LLC of Hampden, Massachusetts.
“It should also be noted that Carl advised that he had a blister on the bottom of his left foot,” Sergeant Hall said.
Templeton Fire Department ambulance was subsequently called and responded to the scene.
“There was nothing more the ambulance could do for the blister and suggestions were given to Carl who also argued with the paramedic on scene,” Sergeant Hall said.
Sergeant Hall said he also asked a medic to assess Luhtjarv’s mental stability, and noted that Luhtjarv was answering the questions appropriately.
Sergeant Hall said he spoke with the homeowner, who said that he has had people in and out cleaning and fixing the house for the past few days. The homeowner told Sergeant Hall that he believed Luhtjarv broke into the house last night or in the morning.
Carl G. Luhtjarv, 64, of Templeton, was charged with:
- Breaking & Entering Daytime for Felony
- Vandalize Property
- Trespass
Luhtjarv’s bail was set at $2,500 cash.
Sergeant Hall said Luhtjarv was unable to post bail and was transported to the Worcester County House of Correction to await his arraignment, which was scheduled for the following day.
