LEOMINSTER — The Leominster resident who won $1 million on a scratch ticket at the beginning of the month has come forward.

Tracey Cokonis said she was getting her nails done when she decided to scratch the winning $5-dollar ticket she purchased on May 2 at Wyman’s Liquors on 30 Pleasant Street.

The odds of winning the million-dollar prize on the “1,000,000 CASH” game ticket Cokonis purchased is 1 in 5,040,000, according to the state lottery commission.

Cokonis told the commission that she plans on using her winnings to help pay her daughter’s way through nursing school.

Cokonis chose to take home the $650,000 cash option after taxes. The other option was $50,000 a year for 20 years. In addition, Wyman’s is going to receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
