BOSTON — Four teenage boys were charged with delinquent assault and battery and larceny for beating a Worcester-based musician to unconsciousness at South Station.
Last Thursday around midnight, Adam Neufell, 20, the drummer of the Worcester-based rock band Young Other was outside South Station with his girlfriend after missing the 11 p.m. train waiting for a ride.
According to a statement Neufell’s father gave to the Telegram & Gazette, a vehicle with four juvenile males pulled up to the station and yelled at Neufell – who has long blond hair – to “get a haircut.”
“Then this car [a Toyota 4Runner] with these kids rolls up and they yell to my son… ‘Get a haircut,’” said the victim’s father, Andy Neufell. “So, he slips his hair around like he’s making curlies with it. And he yells back to them, like, ‘Tough [expletive] guys with short whatever hair driving daddy’s car.’ Something like that.”
Adam Neufell’s father said his son told him that the boys, who were caught on cell phone video by witnesses beating his son, jumped out of the car.
According to a release from the Boston Police Department, one boy approached Adam first, then the others joined in, punching Neufell until he was unconscious.
Neufell’s father said the boys broke his son’s nose and gave him a concussion which has caused him to have increased sensitivity to light and loud noises.
Adam was transported to Tufts Medical Center where he was treated and released. Adam’s girlfriend was not injured in the attack.
“Please keep Adam, his girlfriend Celia, and their families in your thoughts and prayers for a quick, healthy, full recovery,” wrote Young Other on their band’s Facebook page.
Young Other announced Tuesday that due to Neufell’s injuries, the band has had to cancel upcoming shows, which include a fundraiser and a show scheduled in Pennsylvania this Friday.
