LEOMINSTER — A single-family home at 65 Washington Street faced its second fire in three years on Monday
The rear of the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters from Fitchburg, Leominster, and Shirley responded to the two-and-a-half-story structure around 11:30 a.m.
The fire was successfully extinguished by 12:15 p.m.
Several cats were recovered from the basement, but none survived.
According to the Leominster Champion, there was a previous fire at this residence in November 2020.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
