WORCESTER – A Worcester man died in a single-vehicle crash in Oxford Friday night.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at about 10 p.m. on Friday, State Troopers assigned to the Sturbridge Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 395 southbound in Oxford, near Exit 4.
The vehicle involved in the crash, a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, had left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire. The Jeep’s operator Shawn Marengo, 31, of Worcester, was pronounced deceased on scene.
On-site, troopers received backup support from the Webster Fire Department, EMS, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, MassDOT, and the State Police Employee Assistance Unit.
Following the incident, the southbound left lane of Route 395 remained closed for about four hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup. Normal traffic resumed by 2:20 AM on Saturday.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Police-Sturbridge Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Worcester County State Police Detective Unit.
