CHARLTON — Police are investigating the death of a young man who fell from a moving pickup truck on Stafford Street early Sunday morning.
The incident was first reported at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, when Charlton police received multiple calls reporting that a man had fallen from a motor vehicle on Stafford Street.
When police and fire personnel arrived on scene, they located a white Ford pickup truck parked at the side of the roadway, along with a man, who was suffering from serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pickup truck was travelling westbound on Stafford Street when – for reasons still under investigation – a passenger fell from the vehicle, striking the ground.
The operator of the vehicle stopped, called police, and remained on scene.
The passenger, who was identified as Daniel Cleary, 21, of Charlton, by the Worcester District Attorney’s Office on Monday, suffered serious injuries. He was transported to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center-University Campus where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office, the facts and circumstances of this incident are currently under investigation by the Charlton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
