ASHBY — On Monday, Feb. 19, around 5:06 p.m., the Ashby Police Department was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident located near 324 Turnpike Road.
When officer arrived on scene, they were met with the aftermath of a head-on collision that left a 43-year-old woman from Ashburnham trapped inside a 2003 white Cadillac Escalade, and a 58-year-old Townsend man trapped in a red 2008 Ford pickup truck.

According to a release from the Ashby Police Department, Ashby police officers closed Turnpike Road at Main Street, while officers with the Townsend Police Department shut down Turnpike Road at the rotary.
Ashby Fire & EMS arrived on scene, and with assistance from Townsend Fire-EMS, successfully removed both individuals from their vehicles using hydraulic rescue tools.
Both individuals suffered injuries that appeared to be serious.

The Ashburnham woman was life flighted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. The man from Townsend was transported to the same hospital by Ashby Fire & EMS.
According to a preliminary investigation of the scene by Ashby police, the Ashburnham woman in the Escalade veered partway into the eastbound lane while travelling on Turnpike Road, causing the crash. She will be cited for the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ashby Police Department.
