SPENCER — The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office released the name of the woman who was killed in a car accident last Thursday.
Joan Milsop, 84, of Shrewsbury, was the victim of the two-vehicle crash that took place when the car her husband was driving failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Meadow Road, which is reportedly a dangerous intersection.
Police Lieutenant Norman Hodgerney told the Telegram & Gazette that at around 1 p.m., a Hyundai Sonata driven by Joan Milsop’s husband approached the intersection from Meadow Road, then went through the stop sign at the intersection and struck a Jeep Compass on Pleasant Street.
“We see about four to five accidents a year at that intersection,” Hodgerney said. “Some of the crashes are serious, with multiple injuries in some cases.
After the crash, the Sonata swerved off the road, and the Compass hit a utility pole, according to Lt. Hodgerney.
Milsop died in the accident, her husband was transported to an area hospital with injuries, and the woman driving the compass wasn’t injured.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
Sean Murray, a special prosecutor, has been appointed by the District Attorney’s Office to oversee the case, a step taken to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
