ATHOL — At around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, a red pickup truck, believed to be a Dodge Dakota, was driving north on Silver Lake Street in the area of Silver Lake Cemetery when it lost control, and crossed both sides of the street before crashing into the front porch of the residence located at 415 Silver Lake Street.
According to a homeowner on the street who witnessed the accident, following the crash the driver did not remain on scene.
“The driver put the truck into reverse and sped off,” the witness said. “Some pieces of the truck were left, but the plate couldn’t be seen.”

According to the witness, police and fire were called to the scene to assess the damage. Police gathered some pieces of the truck that fell off during the crash as evidence.
The witness said this is the third time a vehicle has crashed into a house on Silver Lake Street since he moved here in 2018.
“The other two were confirmed DUIs, and this one probably was since the driver took off,” the witness said.
The vehicle involved in the Feb. 25 hit and run has yet to be located, the witness said.
