WORCESTER — Police are investigating the shooting of a man that took place at a bus stop near Union Station Wednesday evening.
At about 6:30 p.m., on June 12, 2024, police were dispatched to the Worcester Regional Transit Authority bus hub – which is around the corner from Union Station – following a ShotSpotter activation. (According to its website, ShotSpotter is gunshot detection technology that uses sophisticated acoustic sensors to detect, locate and alert law enforcement agencies to area shootings.)
“Upon arrival, officers were flagged down and located a male shooting victim,” the Worcester Police Department said in a statement. “There was a large crowd present and the scene was chaotic.”
The shooting victim – a male – was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. He suffered serious injuries, which are likely not fatal, Lieutenant Sean Murtha, a Worcester Police Department spokesperson said.
As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made, Murtha added.
The investigation is ongoing.
