School bus fire on I-93 causes major traffic delays in Boston

BOSTON — Commuters experienced significant delays on I-93 northbound Monday afternoon after a school bus burst into flames.

The fire started around 3 p.m. near exit 14 in Dorchester. According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), all lanes on I-93 from exit 14 heading northbound were closed after the bus fire was reported. Traffic is being redirected from I-93 northbound at exit 13 to Morrissey Boulevard.

The bus was occupied by elementary students from Josiah Quincy Upper School returning from a field trip. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
