NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Fire Department responded to a residential blaze Monday evening on Broad Street.
At approximately 5:54 p.m., emergency crews were alerted to a fire in the two-story home located at 15 Broad Street. When they arrived on scene, firefighters observed smoke coming out of the front door.
Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the laundry and pantry area in the rear of the residence.
None of the residents were home at the time of the fire, but a family dog died in the blaze, Newburyport’s Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury said in a statement. Chief Bradbury added that heat and smoke damage affected the entire house.

Four engines and a ladder truck from Newburyport responded to the scene, along with an engine from Salisbury and a ladder truck from Amesbury. Firefighters from Rowley and Seabrook, New Hampshire, provided station coverage.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire is not suspicious in nature.
The Newburyport Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
