Woman arrested after stabbing in Newburyport home

NEWBURYPORT — A woman was arrested early Sunday morning after police responded to a stabbing at a Newburyport residence, according to Marshal Matthew Simons.

Officers arrived at approximately 1:45 a.m. in response to a medical aid call and found a 46-year-old man suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital for treatment.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested at the scene without incident and has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She is currently being held on $100,000 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment Monday in Newburyport District Court.

Police confirmed that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.

Newburyport Officers James Allen, Cameron Richmond, Sgt. Ryan Cutter, and Det. Dani Sinclair responded to the scene. Ipswich Police Officer David D’Amico assisted with the investigation.

“I’m grateful for the quick response and actions of all the first responders involved in this call,” Marshall Simons said. “Everyone worked diligently to bring a volatile situation under control very quickly.”

Newburyport police said they are not releasing further details at this time.
