South Easton hiker left behind by companions lost for hours on Mt. Monadnock on 4th of July

JAFFERY, NH & SOUTH EASTON, MA — Just before 5:30 p.m. on July 4, 2024, New Hampshire Fish and Game was contacted by Monadnock State Park Rangers regarding a missing hiker.

The hiker, 22-year-old Isam Hejazi of South Easton, MA, had last been seen around 3:00 p.m. near the junction of the White Dot and White Cross Trails on Mount Monadnock.

Hejazi’s hiking companions reportedly left him behind when he couldn’t keep up and were unable to find him again, New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a press release.

Park rangers searched the trails after Hejazi was reported missing, but couldn’t locate him. They then called for assistance from New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, who also sought help from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team.

Before the additional search team could enter the area, Hejazi emerged at the Monadnock State Park Headquarters.

“A cardinal rule of hiking is do not hike alone and never leave behind a hiking companion, especially if they are struggling,” New Hampshire Fish and Game said in its statement. “If hiking, please consider visiting https://hikesafe.com/ for tips on hiking safely.”
