LEOMINSTER — On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 4:28 p.m., Officer Brandon Carlson of the Leominster Police Department was dispatched to Russell’s Package Store at 24 Columbia Street following a report of a 911 hang up.

“Upon arrival, Officer [Shane] Crawford was already on scene inside Russell’s,” Officer Carlson said. “While walking towards the store, a male party walked by and said that I was there for him. I recognized the male party as Michael Colvin from a previous incident.
Michael S. Colvin, 45, is a resident of 1025 Mechanic Street in Leominster.
Colvin informed Officer Carlson that three customers inside the store were giving the clerk trouble, but he prevented the customers from doing anything. Colvin then began to walk down Columbia Street, but turned around and walked back into the store where Officer Crawford was.
Once he was inside the store, Colvin told Officer Crawford that he’ll never “forget who he is” and that he’ll be telling his friends about him.
Officer Crawford told Colvin to leave, so Colvin left the store and began to walk toward Mechanic Street.
Officer Carlson went into Russell’s and spoke with the clerk, who called 911.
“[The clerk] stated that this was the third time that Michael had come to the store today,” Officer Carlson said. “[The clerk] stated that Michael was causing issues with other customers but did purchase a nip before drinking it in the store.”
At one point, the clerk said that Colvin reached over the counter and grabbed her arm. When he began to walk behind the counter, she pressed the silent alarm and called 911.
“[The clerk] was not interested in pressing charges for the assault and battery,” Officer Carlson said.
Later that afternoon, Officer Carlson was also dispatched to Brady’s Restaurant at 37 Mechanic Street following a report of an unwanted guest. The caller – who works at the restaurant – said that there was a shirtless man at the bar causing issues with other patrons.
When Officer Carlson arrived on scene, he spoke with the employee who called police who stated that a man had taken his shirt off, was trying to fight other customers, and was yelling at the bar. The employee added that she wanted the man to leave.
“When I turned the corner into the bar area, I observed Michael shirtless and yelling at the chef of Brady’s,” Officer Carlson said. “Michael was told to leave the restaurant. Michael put his shirt back on and exited the bar, when stepping outside with Michael he put his hands behind his back. Once other officers arrived, Michael was placed in handcuffs.”
While police escorted Colvin to the cruiser, he told the officers to take off his handcuffs so he could beat them all up. Colvin was transported to the Leomisnter Police Department for booking.
Officer Carlson remained on scene and continued his investigation by speaking with the employee of Brady’s who called police again.
“While speaking with [the employee] again, she stated that Michael’s behavior inside of the bar caused other customers to leave the bar. [She] stated the customers that left the bar are regulars and never cause any issues,” Officer Carlson said. “[She] also stated that she had compensated guest’s beverages due to the disturbance that was created by Michael. [The employee] was able to pull up the security camera footage of the bar.”
According to Officer Carlson, the surveillance footage shows Colvin walking into the bar and ordering a drink. Colvin then begins speaking with a man sitting at the bar and touches the man’s shoulder, prompting another customer to stand up and leave.
Colvin then speaks to yet another man sitting at the bar. This man ignores Colvin and orders a drink, until Colvin walks toward a group of four people at the bar together.
“The group of four people are gesturing to Michael to go back to his seat and get away from them,” Officer Carlson said. “Michael keeps pestering the group until two males from the group stand up and start to take their sweatshirts off. Michael then takes his sweatshirt and shirt off. Michael gets into the face of one customer and the staff attempts to separate them. The staff then escorts the group out of the side door to keep Michael away from them. Michael is then asked to leave multiple times by the staff. Michael then gets into the face of the chef and another cook. The video shows that when I enter the bar, Michael is still shirtless and standing in front of the chef.”
Colvin was charged with Disturbing the Peace.
“Due to the actions of Michael at both Brady’s and Russell’s it was clear that without police intervention, Michael would continue his behavior and not leave either place of business unless told by police,” Officer Carlson said. “When I entered the bar, in my presence Michael was still shirtless and yelling at the employees, which gives this charge the power of arrest.”
Colvin was arraigned in Leominster District Court on May 2, 2024, after which he was released on his own personal recognizance under the condition that he stay away from both Brady’s Restaurant and Russell’s Package Store.
Colvin attended a pretrial conference on June 14, 2024.
His next court date is on July 25, 2024.
