WORCESTER — After a four-day investigation, Worcester police arrested Jorge Torres-Maldonado, 36, of Pineland Avenue, for striking a man in the neck with an axe last Saturday night on Jefferson Street.
According to a statement from the Worcester Police Department, at about 11:52 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, Worcester police officers were dispatched to Ward Street following a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon that actually took place on Jefferson Street.
When they arrived on scene, police located a man who had been struck in the neck with “some type of axe,” the Worcester Police Department said. Officers provided medical aid to the victim before he was transported to the hospital. The severity of the victim’s injuries and his identity were not disclosed in the press release.
Detectives immediately began a follow-up investigation and developed probable cause for the arrest of Jorge Torres-Maldonado, a resident of Pineland Avenue. On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, officers located Torres-Maldonado on Millbury Street at around 5:25 p.m. and placed him under arrest.
Torres-Maldonado was charged with Armed Robbery, Armed Assault to Murder, and Aggravated Assault and Battery (serious bodily injury).
