BOSTON — Tremont Street from Boylston to Stuart Street was closed today after a construction worker fell to his death from a site near The Cutler Majestic Theater located at 219 Tremont Street at Emerson College.
Emerson College Police informed the community of the incident in an email at 1:59 p.m., noting that Boston Police and the Boston Fire Department are on-site and Allens Alley is also inaccessible. They assured that there is no danger to students, faculty, or staff.
At 3:19 p.m., Emerson College Police announced that Tremont Street had been reopened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The college expressed condolences to the worker’s family and loved ones and offered support to those who may have witnessed the incident.
“Emerson College extends our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this person and our heartfelt support to anyone who may have witnessed this tragedy,” Emerson College President Jay M. Bernhardt said in an email to the Emerson community. “We are still learning more about what occurred and are in ongoing contact with city authorities. They will manage the sharing of information, including the individual’s identity and the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
Emerson College reminded the community of available campus support services, including the Employee Assistance Program, Counseling Services, the Healing & Advocacy Collective, Emerson Concern Center, and the Center for Spiritual Life.
The incident remains under investigation.
