GLOUCESTER — Two Gloucester residents were displaced after a fire overtook their home on Shore Road this afternoon.
The Gloucester Fire Department responded to 41 Shore Road after a 911 caller reported the incident at around 2:54 p.m., on Tuesday, August 20.
According to a statement from Gloucester Fire Department’s Chief Eric Smith, the preliminary investigation indicates that a contractor working at the house next door conducted excavator work that impacted the underground electrical service at 41 Shore Road, which caused a fire in the electrical panel. The fire damaged the entire electrical system at 41 Shore Road, and the plumbing was also impacted during the incident, Chief Smith said.
Two people were inside the residence at the time of the fire. They got out safely with their pet. There were no reported injuries.
According to Chief Smith, the residents will be displaced temporarily until repairs are completed on their home.
Chief Smith commended his crews for their swift response in containing the fire while waiting for National Grid to shut off power in the area.
“Our crews worked swiftly to avoid a spread of the fire,” Chief Smith said. “Their work prevented the fire from becoming a larger incident.”
