Two-alarm fire breaks out at Market Basket in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER — The Gloucester Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at Market Basket on Gloucester Crossing Road Friday night, according to Chief Eric Smith.

Fire crews received a call at 8:23 p.m. on March 14 reporting the fire at 101 Gloucester Crossing Road. By 9 p.m., the fire had been knocked down, but firefighters and mutual aid partners remained on scene, urging the public to avoid the area while operations continued.

The Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, which is part of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, is conducting the investigation.
