Tewksbury man arrested after he was caught on surveillance stealing $250 and a bottle of Grey Goose from Kyoto Steakhouse

TEWKSBURY — A 45-year-old Tewksbury man has been arrested and charged in connection with a breaking and entering incident at a local restaurant, according to Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus.

Michael Moran, 45, of Tewksbury, was charged with breaking and entering at night, larceny from a building, and being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 8, at around 11:05 a.m., when Tewksbury police responded to a report of a possible break-in at Kyoto Steakhouse, located at 1487 Main Street.

The restaurant owner reported that $250 was missing from the cash register, along with a bottle of Grey Goose vodka.

Surveillance footage from the restaurant showed that an individual had entered the building through an unlocked door at approximately 3:27 a.m. The footage captured a suspect leaving the premises around 3:31 a.m., carrying what appeared to be bundles of cash and a bottle of vodka, and heading toward Hinckley Road.

Police were able to obtain a description of the suspect from the security footage.

On August 15, officers encountered a man, identified as Moran, who bore a strong resemblance to the suspect. According to Chief Columbus, based on further review of the surveillance footage and a collaborative investigation, Tewksbury Police confirmed Moran as the suspect in the case.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Moran had an active arrest warrant out of New Hampshire. A search warrant was executed at Moran’s home, where police found clothing that matched what police observed in the surveillance footage of the incident.

Moran was arrested without incident on Monday, August 19, and was arraigned the following day in Lowell District Court. He was released on his own personal recognizance, with conditions to report to New Hampshire by October 4 and to stay away from Kyoto Steakhouse.
