Fatal fire claims life in Taunton home Thursday afternoon

TAUNTON — A person was killed in a house fire on North Walker Street this afternoon.

According to Taunton’s Fire Chief Steven Lavigne, at approximately 3:34 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 22, the Taunton Fire Department responded to 19 North Walker Street following a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke emanating from the residence. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack of the fire with a hose line.

While battling the fire, they discovered an adult occupant inside the home. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire crews put out the fire in 10 minutes, Chief Lavigne said.

The Taunton Police and Fire Departments, along with State Police from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

The name of the individual whose life was lost in the fire has not yet been released.
