GLOUCESTER — Gloucester firefighters quickly responded to and extinguished a boat fire early this morning.
According to Chief Eric Smith of the Gloucester Fire Department, at around 6:03 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to Gloucester Marine Railways, located at 81 Rocky Neck Avenue, following reports of a boat fire.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from a 50-foot vessel docked in the shipyard. Firefighters launched an aggressive attack to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading, Chief Smith said.
Fire crews put the fire out at approximately 6:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.
A preliminary investigation suggests the fire was caused by an electrical issue, but the exact cause is still under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department.
