WORCESTER — William Rodriguez, the 59-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and her mother to death in an apartment in Worcester last week was arrested in New York City this afternoon.
The Worcester Fire Department announced Rodriguez’s arrest on Facebook, stating that he was taken into custody in New York at around 12:40 p.m.
Rodriguez was identified as the main suspect in the murders of two women discovered dead last Saturday in an apartment at 1600 Main Street. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Monday for two counts of armed assault with intent to murder.
Court documents indicate that the victims, Ana Maria Martinez, 58, and her mother, Sergia Acosta, 76, were found with “puncture and slash wounds,” likely inflicted by a knife. Family members of the victims told WCVB that Acosta lived in the apartment where the bodies were discovered and that her daughter was her caretaker.

According to court documents, minutes before the bodies were discovered, police received a 911 call reporting that Rodriguez, who was dating Martinez, was arguing with her and accusing her of cheating. Worcester police say that Rodriguez was the last person captured on surveillance footage entering and exiting the apartment where the women were found dead.
In addition, a note written in Spanish was found in Rodriguez’s apartment that said, “Women who make mistakes will receive what is coming.”
Court records indicate that Rodriguez previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2007 for the death of his wife, Carmen Rodriguez, and was released in 2019 after serving 15 years in prison.
