โDispatch informed me that a third-party witness called in the past shoplifting, stating that the shop owner appeared shaken up over the incident,โ Officer Connors said. โUpon my arrival, I met with Anil Kumar who is the owner of the Mobil station.โ
Kumar, 57, informed Officer Connors that approximately 20 minutes before his arrival, a white male wearing a red collared t-shirt and carrying two backpacksโone blue and one blackโentered the Mobil gas station and stole two Reign Energy Drinks.
Kumar reported that upon witnessing the suspect take energy drinks from the fridge and attempt to exit without paying, he confronted the suspect by trying to lock the store doors to prevent the theft.
โAnil stated that at this point, the male suspect became agitated and kicked a sunglasses display,โ Officer Connors said. โThe male suspect then took out an umbrella and raised it up, and threatened Anil so that he could leave the store. Anil showed me a photo of the suspect walking away from the store heading north on Main Street.โ
Officer Connors radioed dispatch with the suspect’s approximate location and a description. Officers Christian Schwartz and Dennis Hatstat were then dispatched to the area in two separate cruisers to search for the suspect.
โAt this point, I left the Mobil station to assist the responding officers in finding the male suspect,โ Officer Connors said.
Officer Schwartz then radioed to inform Officer Hatstat and Connors that he had stopped a man matching the description outside of Taqueria El Amigo located at 109 N Main Street.
โI arrived on scene shortly after,โ Officer Connors said. โIt should be noted that Taqueria El Amigo is approximately 0.5 miles from the Mobil gas station.โ
When Officer Connors arrived at Taqueria El Amigo, Officers Schwartz and Hatstat had detained the suspect.
โUpon my approach, I observed the male party, who was identified as Jacob Donald-Docarmo wearing a blue collared shirt,โ Officer Connors said. โI then observed a black backpack and blue backpack on the ground, which matched the photo shown to me by Anil. In the pocket of the blue backpack, I observed two empty Reign Energy Drink cans.โ
According to police, Jacob H. Donald-Docarmo, 26, is homeless in Leominster.
At this point, Officer Connors said he conducted a pat frisk of Donald-Docarmo to check for weapons and then read Jacob his Miranda Rights from a Law Enforcement Dimensions card.
โAfter I read Jacob his Miranda rights, I asked if he wished to talk to me about the incident. Jacob stated that he would not until he saw his lawyer,โ Officer Connors said. โI informed Jacob that he was under arrest at this time. I then handcuffed Jacob before checking the handcuffs for tightness and double locking them. Officer Schwartz then transported Jacob back to the station in marked patrol car 2102.โ
Once Donald-Docarmo was en route to the station for booking, Officer Connors performed a search โincident to arrestโ of Donald-Docarmoโs two backpacks.
โDuring this search, I observed the two cans of Reign Energy in the side pocket of the blue backpack,โ Officer Connors said. โI also noticed the umbrella in the side pocket of the black backpack. Upon opening the blue backpack, I observed a red collared t-shirt, which matched the photo that Anil showed me. I used a portable camera provided to me by Officer Hatstat to take photos of Jacob’s property, as well as the two cans of Reign, the umbrella, and the red collared t-shirt. I then placed Jacob’s property as well as the aforementioned items into car 2116 [a cruiser].โ
Officer Connors then left Tacqueria El Amigo and returned to the Mobil station to speak with Kumar again.
โI showed Anil the two cans of Reign,โ Officer Connors said. โAnil stated that they were the drinks that Jacob took from the store. I also showed Anil the red collared t-shirt, and he stated that it was the shirt that Jacob was wearing during the incident. Lastly, I showed Anil the umbrella, and Anil stated that it was the umbrella that Jacob used to threaten him when trying to leave the store.โ
After speaking with Kumar, Officer Connors went to the Leominster Police Station and brought Donald-Docarmoโs property to the booking room.
โWhile I was in the booking room, Jacob stated that he was coming down off of methamphetamines, and did not remember anything that had happened in the 30 minutes prior to his arrest,โ Officer Connor said. โI then left the booking room and checked the two Reign Energy cans, Jacob’s red collared t-shirt, and the umbrella into evidence locker 001. I took a photo of these items in the evidence room on the camera provided to me by Officer Hatstat.โ
Officer Connors charged Donald-Docarmo with the following for the following reasons:
Armed Robbery: โWhen confronted by Anil for trying to take the two Reign Energy Drinks from the Mobil gas station, Jacob raised an umbrella and threatened Anil to let him leave,โ Officer Connors said. โAnil stated that he thought that Jacob was going to hit him with the umbrella. Jacob threatened Anil with the umbrella for the purpose of permanently depriving the Mobil Gas Station of merchandise.โ
Assault with a Dangerous Weapon: โJacob placed Anil in fear by raising the umbrella and threatening to hit Anil with it. Anil stated that he thought that Jacob was going to strike him with the umbrella,โ Officer Connors said.
Vandalize Property: โWhen confronted by Anil, Jacob kicked a sunglasses display with his foot causing damage to the display,โ Officer Connors said. โBy the time I arrived at Mobil, Anil had already fixed the sunglasses display.โ
Shoplifting by Asportation: โJacob took two cans of Reign Energy Drinks, passed all points of sale without paying for the drinks, and left the store,โ Officer Connors explained. โThe value of the two drinks was $7.00.โ
Donald-Docarmoโs bail was set at $2,500.
Donald-Docarmo was arraigned in Leominster District Court on July 31, 2024.
His next court date was a pretrial conference scheduled for Aug. 22, 2024.
