Two Worcester men indicted for murder of mother and daughter in parked car on Englewood Ave

WORCESTER — The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office announced today that two men have been indicted on murder charges for the shooting deaths of a mother and daughter in Worcester last March.

Dejan Belnavis, 27, of Worcester, and Karel Mangual, 28, of Worcester, were indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury last week for two counts each of murder in the deaths of 27-year-old Chasity Nunez and her 11-year-old daughter, Zella Milton.

On March 5, 2024, Worcester Police responded to a call on Englewood Avenue, where they discovered a mother and daughter shot inside their parked car. Both were transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Mangual was arrested on March 7 and initially charged in Worcester Central District Court with armed assault with intent to murder and carrying an unlicensed firearm. On March 12, the charges were upgraded to murder. He has been in custody since his arrest.

Belnavis was taken into custody in San Diego, California, during a traffic stop on March 11. He returned to Massachusetts on March 29, and on that day, appeared for his arraignment in Worcester Central District Court on two murder charges. He has been held without bail since his arrest.

The indictment transfers the cases against Belnavis and Mangual to Worcester Superior Court, where they are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The Worcester DA’s office did not include a motive for the crime in their press release announcing the indictments.
