The City of Gardner’s 547 municipal employees collectively earned $16,174,819 in fiscal year 2024, spanning from July 2023 to June 2024.This amount represented roughly 39% of Gardner’s total $41,475,856 budget for both city and school expenses, as reported by The Gardner News. In the previous fiscal year, the payroll budget for municipal employees was $39,370,582.
In fiscal year 2024, Gardner’s top earners were predominantly from the police department, with officers holding eight of the top ten positions. Leading the list were Detective Christopher Starzynski at $234,807, Detective Lieutenant Matthew Arsenault at $234,174, and Supervisor Roger Cormier at $207,166. These totals include regular salaries along with overtime and double-time earnings. In the previous fiscal year, Detective Starzynski earned $164,274, Detective Lieutenant Arsenault received $121,497, and Supervisor Cormier made $131,874.
