Pedestrian, 71, struck and killed crossing Lake Ave in Worcester

WORCESTER — On Friday, January 10, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Worcester police officers were dispatched to the area of 265 Lake Ave following a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

The Worcester Police Department reported that upon their arrival at the scene, officers found a 71-year-old man who had been hit by a car and was suffering from serious injuries. In addition, a nurse who was on scene assisted the man medically.

The man was transported by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian got off of a bus and began crossing Lake Ave from east to west. As he was attempting to cross the street, a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane, whose driver did not see him, struck him.

The operator of the vehicle remained on scene.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
