Pedestrian, 57, struck by vehicle in Bellingham dies

BELLINGHAM — A 57-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross North Main Street on Tuesday night.

According to a statement from the Bellingham Police Department, Officer Nicholas Dulchinos “came upon” the aftermath of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle near 40 North Main Street at approximately 9:42 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Dulchinos began life-saving measures for the victim, identified as Craig Spencer, 57, of Bellingham. Preliminary findings indicate that Spencer was struck by a vehicle operated by a 21-year-old woman as he was crossing the street.

“Officer Dulchinos immediately began life-saving measures, assisted shortly after by additional officers and Bellingham Fire Department paramedics,” reported the Bellingham Police Department.

Spencer was transported to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Spencer remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

“Based on the initial investigation the victim attempted to cross the road and stepped into oncoming traffic,” the police department stated. “There is no indication that the operator was under the influence, and it is not believed that speed was excessive.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Bellingham Police Department and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team.
