FITCHBURG — A large water main break on River Street near Oak Hill Road has prompted a temporary road closure while crews work to fix the issue, Fitchburg Mayor Sam Squailia announced in a Facebook at 11:19 p.m. tonight.
The break occurred on a 16-inch main near a hydrant in front of Twin City Plumbing, about 100 feet from Oak Hill Road. Water department crews, along with additional support from Tandem, are on-site making repairs. According to the mayor, parts are in stock, and officials do not anticipate the repair to be as complicated as another recent water main break.
The Fitchburg Fire Department assisted in clearing drains to help direct the water into the river, a move that Mayor Squailia said was greatly appreciated by local business owners.
The road will remain closed until repairs are completed.
