CLINTON โ On Friday, December 27, 2024, at around 11:47 p.m., Clinton Police Officers Shane Gilman and Matthew Champagne responded to a call at Breakaway Billiards, 104 Sterling Street, to assist in removing an โunrulyโ man from the establishment.

When police arrived on scene, the man involved โ later identified as Michael Portillo โ was leaving the bar just as officers approached the entrance.
According to police, Michael X. Portillo, 29, is a resident of 23 Sterling Street, Apt. 11, Clinton, MA.
โAt this time, Mr. Portillo stayed outside to speak with Officer Champagne; I then went inside to speak with the bar manager, George [last name redacted],โ Officer Gilman said. โ[George] advised me that he and Mr. Portillo had a mutual agreement that he would not come back to the bar a year ago due to Mr. Portillo being aggressive and starting fights inside the establishment.
George stated that Portillo had arrived that night and, despite being asked multiple times to leave, refused to comply with staff requests.
โ[George] also stated that when he was asked to leave, he became unruly with the staff and hostile,โ Officer Gilman said. โ[George] then advised me that he would like Mr. Portillo officially trespassed from the property.โ

Officer Gilman stepped outside and informed Portillo that he had been trespassed from the property and had been asked to leave.
โAt this time, I advised Mr. Portillo that he needed to leave the property for a second time and then started to follow him off the property to ensure that the disturbance did not continue,โ Officer Gilman said. โMr. Portillo started to leave the property and then stopped about every 10 feet to yell at his friend Bryan. At this point, I had to advise Mr. Portillo three times if he did not exit the property, he would be arrested.โ
Officer Gilman stated that at one point, when Portillo abruptly stopped and shouted at his friend again, he attempted to arrest him, but Portillo swatted his arm away.
โMr. Portillo then actively started resisting arrest to the point where I had to grab Mr. Portillo by his arms and place him on the ground to place handcuffs on him,โ Officer Gilman said. โIt should be noted that as this is going on, there are multiple people outside entering and exiting the property who had their peace disturbed during this interaction.โ
Portillo was then placed under arrest, escorted to Officer Champagne’s cruiser, and transported back to the Clinton Police Station where he was booked on the following charges:
- Disorderly Conduct
- Disturbing the Peace
- Assault & Battery on Police Officer
