Missing New Hampshire woman found dead in Westford pond after search

WESTFORD — A 73-year-old woman from Nashua, New Hampshire, was found dead in Forge Pond on Friday, March 21, 2025, following an extensive search, according to a statement from the Westford Police Department.

The woman, Margaret Hammersley, had been reported missing on Thursday, March 20. On Thursday, her vehicle was found unoccupied in a parking lot along Pleasant Street in Westford, prompting local and state authorities to begin searching the area.

At approximately 1:05 p.m. on Friday, a member of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) Search Team located Hammersley in the water of Forge Pond, along the wood line near the Groton town line, police said.

The Westford Police Department Special Services Division is conducting an investigation into Hammersley’s death in coordination with Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Westford police extended their condolences to Hammersley’s family and thanked multiple agencies for assisting in the search, including Westford Police officers and telecommunicators, the Westford Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, NEMLEC, the Groton Police Department, and Westford Public Works.
