Fire breaks out in attic of Gardner home early Sunday morning

GARNDER — At 3:19 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Gardner Fire Department responded to a residence at 25 High Street following a report of a fire in the attic.

According to the Gardner Fire Department, firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from the home, prompting officials to upgrade the response to a second alarm.

Mutual aid from the Westminster, Ashburnham, Winchendon, Hubbardston and Athol fire departments was provided at the scene.

Members of the Fitchburg, Leominster, and Templeton fire departments covered Gardner’s headquarters during the fire.

All companies cleared the scene at 8:33 a.m.

“This was the first of two multiple alarm fires for the GFD [Gardner Fire Department] on Sunday,” the Gardner Fire Department said in its statement. “At 12:43 p.m., a fire was reported at 549 West Broadway. That fire went to three alarms.”

The Gardner Fire Department said photos of West Broadway fire will be released presently.
