โ€œDispatch provided a description of the suspect as a white male with white hair, in a light blue shirt and dark blue pants,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. โ€œI requested that dispatch have the reporting party stand by to assist in identifying the individual.โ€

Officer Lorenzo noted that the weather was warm and sunny that day, which had attracted a lot of families and individuals to the park.

โ€œUpon my arrival at the scene, I spotted a male fitting the provided description walking in a suspicious manner, glancing back frequently as he deviated from the walking path towards the baseball cages,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. โ€œPlease note I also noticed a female party who I believed to be the reporting party, on the phone looking in the direction of male matching the description. These cages, positioned behind a large, full-sized tin container, seemed to offer him a spot to conceal himself. Noticing his behavior, I approached him. He was dressed in light blue shorts and dark blue pants, precisely as described. The male was identified as Robert Mazzaferro.โ€

According to police, Robert R. Mazzaferro, 81, is a resident of Green Street in Leominster, MA.

โ€œI confronted Robert, informing him about the report of his indecent exposure,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. โ€œHe immediately denied the allegations, asserting that he simply walks in the park every day. He claimed that his pants had never been down and that he had only been adjusting them while walking. I decided it would be prudent to wait for my backup officer to arrive before talking with the reporting party.โ€

Officer Lorenzo said he then spoke with the reporting party.

โ€œPlease note that while speaking to [the reporting party] she confirmed that Robert was indeed the male party who had exposed himself,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. โ€œShe explained that she had been walking along the path with her daughter in a stroller when she noticed Robert between the bleachers facing the park and the rail trail. Kelli recounted the shocking incident where she saw Robert with his pants pulled down, explicitly exposing the tip of his penis. She said that the moment he noticed her witnessing the act, he hastily pulled up his pants and headed toward the baseball cages. She described an immediate reaction of shock and embarrassment, quickly looking away from the scene as she dialed the police.โ€

Officer Lorenzo noted that the layout of the park provided a clear view of the bleachers, which were situated less than 20 feet from the walking trail surrounding Doyle Field.

โ€œ[The reporting party] was able to provide a detailed description of what she observed, emphasizing that she had a full view of the tip of Robert’s penis during the incident,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. Adding, โ€œWhen Dispatch returned with Robert’s information, it confirmed his criminal history; he had previously been charged with two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of open and gross lewdness.โ€

Officer Lorenzo said he approached Mazzaferro again โ€œto clarify his peculiar behavior.โ€

โ€œHe began to repeat that he merely frequented the park for walks and then returned home,โ€ Officer Lorenzo said. โ€œWhen asked about his suspicious conduct, he claimed he sometimes walks behind the cages to collect baseballs to give to his family.โ€

Officer Lorenzo said that โ€“ after taking into consideration the totality of the circumstances โ€“ he placed Mazzaferro under arrest for exposing himself and causing alarm in a public setting.

Mazzaferro was handcuffed and transported to the Leominster Police Department for booking.

Mazzaferro was charged with:

  • Open and Gross Lewdness

Mazzaferro was arraigned in Leominster District Court on April 22, 2025. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he stay away from Doyle Field. His next court date is a pretrial conference scheduled for May 28, 2025.
