SHREWSBURY — A Worcester man was arrested Monday evening after police say he was found carrying a loaded firearm without a license at the White City Shopping Plaza, according to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Around 7:48 p.m. on May 12, 2025, Officer Matthew Mattero was patrolling the White City Shopping Plaza at 50 Boston Turnpike when he observed a motorcyclist traveling erratically and also at a high rate of speed through the parking lot. The rider joined a group of motorcycles parked in front of Petco, prompting Officer Mattero to approach the group, police said.
In the department’s statement, police said several of the motorcycles were unregistered, and some operators did not have valid motorcycle licenses.
As additional officers arrived on scene, Officer Chad Chysna discovered a loaded Taurus Slim .40 caliber handgun with four rounds of ammunition inside a crossbody-style bag worn by one of the men. The man, identified as Jonathan Nieves, 24, of Worcester, did not have a license to carry, according to police.
Nieves was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
