SHREWSBURY — A Marlborough resident was arrested on Friday, March 7, 2025, after allegedly stealing nearly $400 worth of merchandise — including 22 steaks — from the Shaw’s supermarket on Boston Turnpike in Shrewsbury.

According to the Statement of Facts, Shaw’s management recognized the individual — later identified as 27-year-old Joseph J. Stukonis of 22 Broad Street in Marlborough — as someone previously trespassed from the store. Management contacted Shrewsbury police and reported that he was inside and actively shoplifting.
Shrewsbury Police Sergeant Mark Sklut – who responded to the scene – said Stukonis filled two bags of groceries and exited the store without paying. Shaw’s staff followed Stukonis until police arrived and located him at 7 Boston Turnpike.
Sgt. Sklut returned to the store and obtained a list of the stolen items. The stolen merchandise included a Celsius energy drink, three bags of chips, a package of Oreos, and 22 steaks — totaling $390.15.
Dispatch later confirmed that the man had previously been trespassed from the property.
Stukonis was charged with:
- Trespassing
- Shoplifting by Asportation
Stukonis was arraigned in Westborough District Court on March 10, 2025, and released on personal recognizance following the hearing. His next court appearance was a pretrial hearing scheduled for May 13, 2025.
