Sergeant Bulman reported that dispatch received a call from 55-year-old Joshua [last name redacted], who stated that he and his associate, 39-year-old Robert [last name redacted], were involved in an altercation with another male on their property.
โ[Joshua] stated that the three were arguing and at one point the third party, later identified as Mr. Derekke William-Wint, drove his vehicle at them in an attempt to run them over,โ Sergeant Bulman said.
According to police, Derekke William-Wint, 40, resides at 16 Young Street, Leicester, MA.

When Sergeant Bulman arrived at the scene, Joshua and Robert informed him that they had been experiencing ongoing issues with individuals on their property at 69 Main Street.
โThis evening, they found Mr. William-Wint there smoking and asked him to leave, to which he replied โNo,โโ Sergeant Bulman recounted. โA verbal argument ensued, and Mr. William-Wint eventually entered his vehicle and drove at [Joshua], forcing him to jump out of the way; [he] narrowly missed getting hit.โ
Joshua and Robertโs written statements provided additional detail about the incident. Joshua and Robert stated that they were leaving their property at 69 Main Street around 1:30 a.m. when they noticed a man smoking a cigarette beside a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the premises. They initially stopped their vehicle a short distance away and waited for him to leave. When he didnโt, Robert exited the vehicle to confront him.
โThere was a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on my property at 21-69 Main Street,โ Robert wrote in his voluntary statement. โA man was standing outside smoking a cigarette. I sat behind his vehicle observing him. I decided to approach and ask him if he could leave. He refused several times. I exited my vehicle and asked him again. After a few curse words, he got in his car, pulled in the street. He continued to insult me, Josh, and our mothers. He then pulled his car around and hit the gas at us nearly hitting Josh. He then pulled down the road and called Josh down the road to fight. After a few minutes he left. He came back three minutes later again asking Josh to come into the road saying, โNow I have my self-defense,โ with his hand in his pocket. He left and the police came.โ
Joshuaโs written statement corroborated the account.
โHe didnโt leave, so we pulled up next to him and asked him to please leave the property,โ Joshua wrote in his voluntary statement. โHe said no. He asked if we thought because he was Black was the reason we wanted him to leave. We told him several times to leave and he didnโt. Things began to get verbally heated and Robert and him exchanged more words, and I began to get involved in telling him to just move off the property. He got in his car and spun around and drove at me trying to hit me. I had to jump out of the way and narrowly missed getting hit by him. He then went down the street and was there talking smack. He left and came back with his hand in his pocket telling me he was ready to fight and had self-defense with him. I assumed it was a gun. He said he wanted me to come to him so he could deal with me legally. He kept his hand in his pocket as if he had a gun. He then left.โ

Sergeant Bulman summarized the account similarly, stating that Joshua and Robert reported that William-Wint drove a short distance away but continued shouting, declaring he was ready to fight. He then returned with his hand in his pocket, claiming he had โself-defense,โ which led both men to believe he might be armedโthough no weapon was ever displayed or mentioned. After the alleged “self-defense” threat, William-Wint left the scene again, and Robert and Joshua called the police.
โMr. William-Wint then left the scene again at which point police units arrived,โ Sergeant Bulman said. โ[Robert] and [Joshua] indicated that the vehicle drove up McCarthy Avenue and took the second left, which was Young Street (Mr. William-Wint’s Street according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles).”
Sergeant Bulman, along with other responding officers, began searching Young Street for William-Wint. During the search, Sergeant Bulman reported finding William-Wint on Young Street, walking toward his residence from the direction of the alleged incident.
Sergeant Bulman said that when asked to explain his side, William-Wint said he had simply been smoking a cigarette when the two men began arguing with him and told him to leave.
โMr. William-Wint asked if he could finish his cigarette, at which point the โBig guy pushed me,โโ Sergeant Bulman recounted. โDuring my conversation with Mr. William-Wint, I could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath as he spoke.โ
Sergeant Bulman then took William-Wint into custody, handcuffed him behind his back, and transported him to the Leicester Police Station for booking.
โOnce back at the station, Mr. William-Wint was afforded all his applicable rights as well as the opportunity to use the phone,โ Sergeant Bulman said. โBail Commissioner Hart was also contacted and apprised of the situation; Commissioner Hart later ordered Mr. William-Wint held with no bail until court in the morning. Upon Completion of the booking process, Mr. William-Wint was transported to the Spencer Police Department by Officer [Steven] Kustigian for holding until court.โ
William-Wint was charged with the following:
- Assault with Dangerous Weapon (vehicle)
He was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court on May 13, 2025. Following his arraignment, William-Wint was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he stay away from Joshua.
William-Wintโs next court date is a pretrial hearing schedule for July 1, 2025.
