STERLING — A Massachusetts State Police cruiser rolled over on Interstate 190 Saturday evening while responding to a separate crash, part of a series of weather-related emergencies over a busy weekend for local first responders.
According to state police, the cruiser was traveling southbound on I-190 when it hydroplaned in heavy rain and overturned. The trooper driving the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Sterling Fire Department officials said they responded to the cruiser crash with Engine 5, Ambulance 2, Ambulance 1, 28C, and Sterling Police, along with mutual aid from the Lancaster Fire Department. The rollover was one of 15 calls the department handled since Friday morning.
The evening before, Sterling firefighters also responded to a large gasoline spill off Route 140. Engine 5, Squad 2, Car 3, and a HazMat trailer were deployed to the scene. Crews worked quickly to contain and clean up the spill, the Sterling Fire Department said in a statement.
Sterling Fire officials attributed the high volume of calls to the hazardous driving conditions caused by persistent rainfall throughout the weekend.
