FITCHBURG — Firefighters swiftly extinguished a fire at a Winter Street residence in downtown Fitchburg early Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out just after shift change, at around 8:27 a.m., when Group 2 crews were dispatched following reports of a possible building fire, the Fitchburg Fire Department said in a statement.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames pouring from the upper-level windows of the home.

Crews quickly established a water supply, deployed attack line hoses, and began knocking down the fire.
Overhaul operations were conducted afterward to check for hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished, Fitchburg fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
The department expressed appreciation to surrounding communities that provided mutual aid during the incident.
