CHARLTON — An 11-year-old child has died following a bicycle crash Thursday afternoon in Charlton, according to a statement from the Charlton Police Department.
At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, emergency crews were dispatched to the area of 34 Jennings Drive for a reported bicycle accident involving a child. When police arrived, they found that an electric bicycle had crashed into a tree. No other vehicles were involved.
According to the Charlton Fire Department, Ambulance A-1 and Engine 3 responded alongside police. Upon arrival, officers were already rendering first aid. Fire personnel conducted a rapid assessment of the child’s injuries and, due to their severity, requested the launch of UMass Memorial LifeFlight for advanced transport.
A first alarm was called to establish a landing zone on Brookfield Road, and one of the department’s command vehicles, designated C-1, responded to assist. However, LifeFlight was unable to fly due to weather conditions and instead dispatched a ground transport unit to meet the ambulance en route to the hospital.
Two Charlton paramedics administered advanced life support (ALS) during the early phase of the transport, while police managed traffic to expedite the journey to UMass Memorial Medical Center’s Trauma Center in Worcester. The ambulance rendezvoused with the LifeFlight ground crew in Auburn, and both teams worked together to maintain advanced care during the remainder of the transport.
Despite the efforts of first responders, the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“Please keep the child and their family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” the Charlton Fire Department said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Charlton Police Department, State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, and CEMLEC (Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council). Authorities have stated that no further information will be released at this time.
All inquiries into the matter are being directed to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.
