Attleboro restaurant destroyed in early-morning fire after roof collapse

ATTLEBORO — On Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at approximately 1:31 a.m., members of the Attleboro Fire Department were dispatched to the El Buen Sazon restaurant located at 147 Pine Street following a report of a structure fire.

According to a statement from the Attleboro’s Fire Chief Scott T. Lachance, when crews first arrived on scene they observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building.

“A working fire assignment was immediately initiated,” Chief Lachance said. “Interior crews faced zero visibility and extreme heat while working to extinguish the flames. Firefighters cut ventilation holes in the roof to help release heat and smoke.”

Around 2:05 a.m., the incident commander noticed the building’s roof beginning to sag, followed moments later by a partial collapse. An emergency evacuation was ordered, and all interior crews exited safely without injury.

Crews then moved their efforts outside the building and continued fighting the fire until 5:37 a.m. The building is expected to be a total loss.

“This was a challenging fire to extinguish,” said Attleboro Fire District Chief Michael Maitland, the incident commander. “The building’s layout was far from typical, which made accessing and reaching the seat of the fire difficult. Despite those challenges, our crews worked tirelessly under dangerous conditions to bring the fire under control.”

The Norton, North Attleborough, Rehoboth, and Pawtucket Fire Departments provided mutual aid, both at the scene and for station coverage.

According to Chief Lachance, the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but it remains under investigation by the Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit.
