Driver dies after vehicle overturns and becomes partially submerged in Auburn

AUBURN — On Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Auburn Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Rochdale Street.

According to a statement from Chief R. Scott Mills, when officers arrived on scene, they located an overturned vehicle which was partially submerged in a body of water.

“Emergency personnel from both the Auburn Police Department and the Auburn Fire Department immediately initiated rescue efforts,” Chief Mills said.

The vehicle’s sole occupant was removed from the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital, where they later died.

“Out of respect for the victim’s family, we kindly ask that the public refrain from making assumptions regarding the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation,” the Auburn Police Department said in a Facebook post that included the statement.

The identity of the individual who passed on has not yet been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
