Auburn police investigation links fugitive to various Victoria’s Secret thefts, leading to arrest after multi-state pursuit

AUBURN — Auburn police detectives played a key role in the arrest of a New Hampshire man wanted on 15 arrest warrants and suspected of stealing approximately $115,000 in merchandise across multiple states, according to the Auburn Police Department.

On Dec. 5, 2024, Auburn police responded to a report of nearly $2,400 worth of stolen merchandise from Victoria’s Secret at the Auburn Mall. The suspect remained unidentified at the time, police said in a Facebook post.

In January 2025, with assistance from the New Hampshire Probation/Parole Department and Victoria’s Secret Asset Protection, investigators identified the suspect as 39-year-old Jaquelle Anderson of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Auburn police detectives said Anderson had a history of retail theft across New England and had evaded law enforcement multiple times, leading to 12 active arrest warrants from several Massachusetts district courts. Anderson was also wanted by the New Hampshire Probation/Parole Department for previous firearms offenses, so he was considered armed an dangerous by police.

Based on his criminal history, Auburn detectives secured a 13th arrest warrant for Anderson, Auburn police said in their Facebook post. He later accumulated two additional warrants, bringing the total to 15, according to police.

During their investigation, detectives discovered that Anderson frequently rented vehicles while committing thefts, which made it difficult to track his whereabout. In early 2025, he fled from New Jersey State Police during a traffic stop, leading to additional warrants in Virginia and New Jersey, Auburn police said.

On Feb. 28, 2025, Anderson resurfaced in Massachusetts, stealing from Victoria’s Secret locations in both Natick and Auburn before escaping in an unidentified rental car. Less than a week later, surveillance footage from a Victoria’s Secret store in Rhode Island captured Anderson and his vehicle during another theft, enabling investigators to identify his car and registration, police said.

After learning about the Rhode Island incident, during the early morning hours of March 6, 2025, Detective Keith Chipman of the Auburn Police Department alerted the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and issued a statewide BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for Anderson. On March 6, 2025, a state trooper spotted Anderson’s vehicle on I-290 and attempted to stop him, but he fled. The pursuit was temporarily called off for safety reasons but resumed shortly afterward on I-495 North, where troopers successfully deployed stop sticks at exit 67.

However, Anderson continued west on Route 62 before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing into a wooded area in Clinton. With aerial support from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and assistance from multiple local law enforcement agencies, officers located and arrested Anderson without further incident.

He is expected to appear in Marlborough District Court today to face multiple charges.
