Berlin police identify 23-year-old Sterling firefighter killed in motorcycle crash

BERLIN — Police have identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash with a Berlin home on August 31 as Jack Bonazzoli, a 23-year-old firefighter/EMT from Clinton. Bonazzoli had recently joined the Sterling Fire Department and was preparing for the state’s fire academy.

According to Berlin’s Police Chief Eric J. Schartner, the preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle Bonazzoli was operating was traveling west on West Street around 9:31 p.m. when he lost control and struck a house near the intersection of West Street and Randall Road. Berlin Fire/EMS provided lifesaving aid, but Bonazzoli died at the scene. No one inside the home was injured.

“Jack recently joined the Sterling Fire Department and possessed a passion to dedicate his future to public service,” Chief Schartner said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened from the events that transpired last night and we are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
